More than 250 million years ago an ancient sea existed on the Indian subcontinent. Over time, rivers washed rocks and soil containing 84 natural minerals into the shallow inland sea where the sediment was deposited. Layer upon layer of sediment built up over millions of years until the ancient sea was no more. In a time free from contamination, the purest salt and minerals on earth were sealed beneath. Then about 200 million years later, tectonic plate movement initiated a process called "uplifting". The earth started to rise at around 6cm per year, forming the tallest mountains on earth, the Himalayas.
